As we approach the end of the year, we are excited to share some noteworthy updates on our ongoing advocacy initiatives and projects.

ZIPs Adventures in Kaduna State

Our focus on the Zonal Intervention Projects (ZIPs) has yielded promising results in Kaduna State, where we have piloted our efforts.  So, what's the ZIP deal, you ask? ZIPs are projects nominated by the 469 Members of the National Assembly from the 36 states + the FCT worth 100 billion Naira annually.

Constituents are now well-informed about these projects, and there is a growing sense of accountability among National Assembly members for their implementation. Moreover, citizens are actively engaging in the process, receiving education on how to assess the viability and impact of ZIPs. The success in Kaduna State sets the stage for scaling this project to other locations across the country in the coming year. 

Local Governance Advocacy

Recognizing the challenges faced by local governments since Nigeria's return to democracy in 1999, we have directed our advocacy efforts towards educating and mobilizing citizens to demand responsive governance at the grassroots level. Corruption, weak institutions, and oversight challenges have hindered the delivery of social services. Currently, our advocacy project is making strides in Ebonyi, Nasarawa, Ondo, and Yobe States.

Our OOTC Champions have undergone comprehensive training in stakeholder engagement, advocacy skills for policy engagement at the local government level, effective communication, story-telling, and reporting. We are pleased with their receptiveness and have full confidence in their ability to influence positive changes in local governance in their respective states.
