Earlier this year, we contacted you and highlighted a significant concern—citizens need clearer ways to engage. Citizens Taking Action: From Helpless to Heard

For years, Okada riders in Emene-Nkwubor, a suburb in Enugu East LGA, were harassed and extorted by police officers falsely claiming to enforce a state ban on Okada operations. But there was a catch—the ban only applied within the state metropolis, and their route wasn’t covered.
One phone call changed everything!

Fed up, the riders called during the #OfficeOfTheCitizen radio program on Solid 100.9FM—and their courage paid off.

The case was swiftly escalated to the Enugu State Commissioner of Police, Sulaiman Balarabe. In response, he visited the Emene Police Station, ordered the immediate release of all impounded bikes, and ended the illegal extortion. He also set up a committee to investigate similar abuses across the state.
