“The security and welfare of the people shall be the primary purpose of government.”
Section 14(b)(2), 1999 Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria (as amended)
Dear {{First name|Active Citizen}},
There’s a heaviness that comes from waking up to bad news over and over. Even when we try to stay hopeful, the cycle of shock, anger, and silence becomes exhausting. Yet, here we are again.
Over the past two decades, Nigeria has endured repeated mass kidnappings - from Chibok in 2014, to Dapchi, Kankara, Jangebe, Kuriga, and more. Each tragedy was meant to be a turning point, each supposed to force action. Instead, the pattern has only deepened.

And now, more attacks - just this week.
In Kwara, armed men stormed a church, killing and abducting worshippers. Days later in Kebbi, 25 schoolgirls were kidnapped. And now, in Niger State, attackers invaded a Catholic school, abducting an unspecified number of children. Different communities, same heartbreaking pattern - fear, trauma, and unanswered questions.
Our Constitution is clear: “The security and welfare of the people shall be the primary purpose of government.” Yet, Mr. President and his administration have failed.
While the United States Congress is holding hearings on killings in Nigeria, asking hard questions, our own National Assembly remains silent. No emergency debates. No major oversight actions. No pressure on security agencies. No meaningful reforms. A legislature that rubber-stamps cannot protect a nation in crisis.

What this moment demands
Nigeria does not lack ideas or expertise. What we lack is urgency, alignment, and political will. Stronger early-warning systems, community intelligence, faster response times, transparent communication, and clear accountability - these tools exist. They simply aren’t being used.
We must raise our voices. The international community that wants to help us can easily follow the money - freeze bank accounts and decline visas. And we must take to the streets with one unified voice - no one is safe anywhere. If you’d like to organise and protest in your community or state, email us at [email protected]. We will help amplify, mobilise, and articulate demands effectively.

And for our National Assembly members, even if they have not earned our trust, they still work for us. Don’t wait. Call them. Write to them. Demand immediate action to protect citizens. Use shineyoureye.org to find your lawmakers’ contacts. Make it clear: every life lost is on their watch.
Support Our Work!
The work of building a better Nigeria never stops - and neither do we.
Have a great weekend!
