When Will This Nightmare End?

The greatest danger to Nigeria today is the inaction of those who should serve and save it.

Olusegun Obasanjo

(Former President of Nigeria)

Dear Active Citizen,

The plague of killings and kidnappings ravaging our beloved Nigeria has struck again - this time killing two traditional rulers in Ekiti State.

Oba David Ogunsakin and Oba Olatunde Olusola were returning from a peace meeting when gunmen ambushed and assassinated them in cold blood. If community figureheads working to foster stability fall victim, truly no one is safe.

Their deaths join the endless heart-rending headlines - 200 killed in Plateau...30 abducted in Katsina and Zamfara...armed invaders in homes in Abuja and Kaduna. Highways, small villages, our own suburbs - all hunting grounds now for these terrorists.

The trauma spreads like poison, no one immune. It should outrage us all. It’s time to take back our nights and days from the grip of terror.

We start by organizing together. Get active on social media to highlight government inaction while coordinating call-in campaigns flooding elected offices with our cries for help until they yield action.

Then protests and vigils - peaceful but unrelenting. Governors, legislators and yes, the President himself unsuccessful hiding behind ferried fences while people suffer must contend with our demands daily.

If governments sworn to protect and serve demonstrate zero empathy for victims, then we citizens must put hearts first. With care and strategy, anguish gives way to change.

Who will stand up with us? Nigeria’s future awaits our decision.
