“There is no such thing as a vote that doesn’t matter”

-  Barrack Obama

(Former President of the United States of America)

Ndi Anambra! It was our finest hour, yet! Were you part of the brave voting population that turned out to decide the fate of the state for the next four years? You made history!Against all odds, electorates in Anambra State came out to vote for their respective candidates. However, the election witnessed low voter turnout as only 10.1% of the registered voters headed to the polls! Nonetheless, for a state chequered by cases of violence and fierce resistance to electoral activities, the noble action of those who heeded the democratic clarion call has given Anambra State its next governor.

Prof. Charles Soludo, the candidate of the All Progressive Grand Alliance (APGA) and winner of the Anambra gubernatorial elections recorded 112,229 votes to defeat his closest rival, Mr Ozigbo of the PDP who polled 53,807 votes. The APC candidate, Mr Uba came third with 43,285 votes.

Active citizens! We can do better!! It is important to complete the CVR process (online and physical) so you can participate in the next elections. If you are yet to begin the process, click here to start today!

The National Assembly has passed the Electoral Act Amendment Bill and approved the electronic transmission of results. The approval was given on Tuesday, November 9, 2021, when the lawmakers resumed plenary after a three-week recess.Recall that on Tuesday, October 12th, the Senate bowed to pressure and gave the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) the sole power to determine the mode of transmission of results. The reversal comes after months of bashing from the public over its initial resolution to restrict the electronic transmission of results by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

Enjoy the rest of your week! The EiE Nigeria Team
