Angola Ruling Party, MLPA, Secures Another Five Years

The Angola Electoral Commission has declared People’s

Movement for the Liberation of Angola (MPLA)

leader,

President Joao Lourenco

as the

, giving the incumbent another

5 years

to govern the people of Angola.

The MLP won 51.7% of the ballots and 124 parliamentary seats out of 220 while the

National Union for the Total Independence of Angola

 (UNITA) won  43.95% of the ballot with  90 parliamentary seats.

However, UNITA’s leader,

Adalberto Costa Junior

has dismissed the election results, stating that the initial count was not reliable. He cited discrepancies between the Commission’s count and the main opposition coalition’s own tally.
