Dear ,On Thursday, September 15th, marked the International Day of Democracy. The journey to ensure that true democracy is attained in Nigeria may be rough, but we will surely get there.

Cheers to the journey ahead! 🥂

It’s Flooding Again in Lagos

Two persons lost their lives during the flooding in some communities in Alimosho Local Government Area of Lagos State on Monday, September 12th.Many of these incidents are attributed to blocked canals and poor drainage systems. This has become a recurring issue. Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu should prioritise the safety of Lagosians!

Aluta Continua, but where is Victoria?

On Tuesday, September 13th, Nigerian students protested against the ongoing #ASUUStrike and demanded that the federal government should resolve the lingering issues with ASUU.Our students have been forced out of schools since February 14th, over ASUU’s demand for improved funding for universities and a review of lecturers’ salaries, among other issues.

Meanwhile, the National Industrial Court of Nigeria has again adjourned to September 19th, the suit filed by the federal government against the Academic Staff Union of Universities. It’s starting to look like even the justice system has become part of the problem. #EndASUUStrikeNow!

Japa Season: Passport Issuance Increased by 38%

Reports show that the number of passports issued by the Nigeria Immigration Service rose from 767,164 to 1,059,607 passports in 2021, a 38% increase from its 2020 data.Nigerians are fed up with the system, many of our skilled workers are leaving. It is beginning to look like many citizens who remain in the country are only marking time before their eventual emigration.

Active citizen! Whether you emigrate or remain in the country, if we do not select credible leaders, their policies and decisions will continue to affect citizens wherever we are!Let’s work together to get it right in 2023!

Ensure you pick up your PVC and come out to vote on election day. The ideal Nigeria we all seek begins with our participation in the electoral process. If you have issues picking up your PVC or observed any error in your information on the voter's register, lodge a complaint here.

Stay safe this weekend. The EiE Nigeria Team
