Our President is Sleeping!

“The worst evils which mankind has ever had to endure were inflicted by bad governments.”

Dear Active Citizen,Trying times persist in Nigeria! As the 2023 elections approach, we would have expected that the concerns and immediate business of the government would be fighting corruption, rescuing a rapidly collapsing economy, while showing off its might against terrorism; as these were the major campaign points of APC during the 2015 and 2019 general elections.

7 years down the line, the situation has gone from bad to worse. Terrorists have even brazenly threatened to kidnap the President and the Governor of Kaduna State, Mallam Nasir El-Rufai. The Federal Ministry of Education have also directed the closure of all public and private schools in Abuja for fear of being attacked by terrorists. We don't want to be sitting ducks!

In solidarity with ASUU on the ongoing strike, the Nigerian Labour Congress (NLC) staged a protest in all state capitals on Tuesday, July 26 and Wednesday, July 27, 2022. They have also given the Federal government a 2-week ultimatum to honour their agreement with ASUU after which a 3-day warning strike will follow. While Nigerians were protesting the failure of his administration, the Speaker of the House of Representatives was rubbing it in that he was in school!

After the public outcry, he apologised for the error in judgement.Yet again our leaders have failed us!

Senate and HOR on Sleep Mode

Over 80 Senators across political parties and a majority of House of Representatives members, on Wednesday, July 27, 2022, agreed to impeach President Muhammadu Buhari, if the growing insecurity across the nation persisted beyond six weeks. This ultimatum was handed to the government before the legislature shut down for two months. That same day, the Senate resolved to invite the Central Bank Governor, Godwin Emefiele, to explain the rising exchange rates against the Naira. However, the lawmakers did not fix a date but instead decided to embark on a 2-month recess.Amidst these mounting national challenges, who do we turn to?Active citizens, engage your representatives!
