"If not us, then who?If not now, then when?"- John Lewis (Former United States Congressman)

Dear Active Citizen,

Remember our promise to always stay on course even when the "noise" has died down? Well, we never broke it.The #EndSARS #5for5 Demands are still well on our radar and we are pleased to see some progress. President Buhari has finally constituted the Governing Board of the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC), a win for us all!Recommendations have been made for states that have completed hearings at the judicial panel of inquiry to ensure public access to the final report so that citizens can engage with relevant stakeholders to promote implementation.

Our Executive Director,

'Yemi Adamolekun

on

Thursday, March 25th,

took us through

her #OnePerson journey on steering the ship of EiE Nigeria over the past 10 years

in this month's edition of #ThursdayTalks.

The conversation was moderated by ace journalist,

Maupe Ogun-Yusuf.

The why; the cost; the successes, challenges and lessons learnt.

Governor Ortom's Temple Run Saga

You know that Yoruba phrase

gbogbo wa la ma je breakfast?

...disregard it at your own peril. You see the issue of insecurity in this Nigeria?...it will get to everyone, including the elite.

Benue State Governor, Samuel Ortom narrowly escaped an alleged assassination attempt on Saturday, March 20th.

Suspected herdsmen ambushed him on his farm in Tyomu community,

Benue State. Mr Ortom had to run over 1.5 kilometres to escape the ambush as the herdsmen opened sporadic gunfire.

We have been calling on the government to do the needful, yet, nothing is being done.

Bandits who brazenly attack citizens have extended the gesture to public officials. The nation is rapidly tilting towards anarchy and if nothing is done to nip this in the bud, it will spiral out of control.

This is an SOS call.

#AfakaStudents

Parents of the

kidnapped students of the Federal College of Forestry Mechanisation, Afaka, Kaduna State, took to Kaduna airport road to protest the captivity of their wards.

The students were abducted on

Friday, March 12, 2021,

but

172 of them were rescued while 39 are still missing.

The Governor of the state,

Mallam Nasir el-Rufai

has maintained that his administration will not negotiate with bandits. While we may agree with him on this, we urge him to collaborate with the federal government and ensure that the victims are brought back home.

EiE Nigeria and several partners are hosting a

special 13-week #OfficeOfTheCitizen Radio program in 21 states + FCT on #EndSARS

and updates on the Judicial Panels of Inquiry.

Highlights of the show are

weekly updates from the Judicial Panels of Inquiry

(in partnership with Yiaga Africa), t

he status of #5for5 Demands and support for citizens (legal and psychosocial).

Join the conversation in your state!

Have a great weekend! The EiE Nigeria Team
