Service Chiefs Sacked and You Did It!

Friday, January 29, 2021

"In proportion as one renders service he becomes great."– Booker T. Washington(American Educator)

Dear Active Citizen,

They hear us!

There had been calls by citizens, civil society organizations (CSOs) and the National Assembly members

to sack the Service Chiefs appointed by President Muhammadu Buhari since 2015. Finally, the president hearkened to our voices – albeit late but we move!

The new service chiefs are

Major-General Leo Irabor,

Chief of Defence Staff;

Major-General I. Attahiru,

Chief of Army Staff;

Rear Admiral A.Z Gambo,

Chief of Naval Staff and

Air-Vice Marshal I.O Amao,

Chief of Air Staff.

This is what happens when you're consistent with your demands.

Change requires, not just deliberate actions, but also consistency.

Remember, it is not a sprint, it is a marathon!

The first edition of #ThursdayTalks this year held yesterday, January 28th.

Seun Onigbinde

(Director,  BudgIT) and

Dipo Awojide

(Founder, BTDT Hub) discussed

Education Financing in Public Universities and the Way Forward.

Speaking at the conversation, Dipo Awojide called for full autonomy for public universities in Nigeria, adding that the government can support through grants.

On his part, Seun Onigbinde called for more efforts to improve the education sector.

“We underserve the educational sector by putting people who lack the capacity to run the sector”

, he added.

Host Communities of Nigeria Producing Oil and Gas (HOSTCOM),

at the venue of the public hearing of the Petroleum Industry Bill (PIB) on

Thursday, January 28, 2021.

The fight started when HOSTCOM was called to make a presentation. A disagreement amongst the members led to an exchange of blows until security personnel intervened.

Since when did fists take the place of the mouth in dialogue? Hmm...

#MyLG Town Hall Meeting

As parts of our efforts at ensuring active citizens' participation in local governance

, we partnered with BudgIT to train local government (LG) administrators

on preparing citizens-focused budgets in Ebonyi and Zamfara States on

Monday, January 25th

and

Wednesday, January 27th

respectively.

The administrators learnt about transparency, service delivery and inclusion in the preparation of LG budgets.

Some good news!

There are reports that some of the

#ChibokGirls

abducted by Boko Haram since 2014

We continue to demand the freedom of all of the abducted girls.

Have a great weekend! The EiE Nigeria Team
