You're Our #1 Citizen!
Friday, December 12, 2020
"One of the penalties for refusing to participate in politics is that you end up being governed by your inferiors." – Plato (Greek Philosopher)
Dear Active Citizen,
You made it this far, you deserve some accolades. 👏
As the year draws to an end, we advise that you count your gains, not your losses. Dwell on the positives, not the negatives. Focus on what is/will be instead of what was/could have been. Remember, it's a marathon, not a sprint!
Fainters Club of Nigeria
Daniel Pondei of NDDC who? Meet Abulrasheed Maina, the latest "recruit" into the Fainters Club of Nigeria.
Mr Maina, who is the former Chairman of the defunct Pension Reform Task Force Team, borrowed a leaf from the book of his "fainting fathers" when he slumped shortly after the court resumed proceedings on
Thursday, December 10th,
on the
allegation of fraud to the tune of N2 billion
which the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) levelled against him and his firm, Common Input Property and Investment Limited.
To Maina's acting credit, the display seemed to have worked as the development forced the trial Judge to suspend sitting.
If only our public officials put in as much effort into being accountable as they do into evading justice, Nigeria would be a better place.
Oh well...
On
Thursday, December 10th,
Nigeria joined the rest of the globe to mark
#HumanRightsDay
while our freedom of speech, assembly & association continue to be under threat.
Amidst the unabated attacks on the media and the hot air coming from the security agencies which has forced many into self-censorship,
we celebrate individuals and organizations who have, through their time and resources, contributed to the cause and are still championing it.
You are the real MVPs!
#EndSARS
It has been over 7 weeks since the #LekkiMassacre.
Have things changed? Well, there's more awareness of the problems, but the police are still resisting.
Have all the demands been met? No.
A tricycle driver was
Police brutality yet again💔
We should not have to wake up & write a statement about yet another case of police brutality. This is unconscionable & again shows why we must #EndSARS

at Rukpokwu in Port Harcourt over N100 bribe.
How many more people need to die?
HOW & WHEN will the Nigerian Police be reformed?
We stay demanding!! #EndSARS
#GhanaDecided
On
Monday, December 7, 2020,
Ghanaians took to the polls to elect their president, an exercise that led to the re-election of
President Nana Akufo-Addo
who won by a slim margin, securing 51.59% of the total votes cast. The opposition candidate,
John Mahama
rejected as “fraudulent” the results of the elections and vows to “take all legitimate steps to reverse this tragedy of justice.”
Despite the coronavirus pandemic, turnout was high, with over 13 million people voting (79% of registered voters), a sharp contrast to the low turnout at #NigeriaDecides in 2019 (35%).
If there is one thing to take home here, it is that Nigerians need to come out and vote during elections.
Congratulations Ghana!
