Protect Yourself!

Friday, August 6, 2021

"The ignorance of one voter in a democracy impairs the security of all.”- John F. Kennedy(35th President of the United States of America)

Dear Active Citizen,

Hope you are keeping safe? Remember to use your nose mask, and observe all COVID-19 protective guidelines.

Have you heard that there is also a cholera outbreak in Nigeria? According to

in July 2021, cholera killed 441 people in 13 states in Nigeria.

We cannot afford to have another pandemic, especially as the nation recorded 404 new cases of COVID-19 on July 27th, the highest number since March 4th.

Cholera is a diarrhoeal disease resulting from poor hygiene. As active citizens, we need to take responsibility and keep our environment clean.

Help save lives!

It has been two months since the federal government illegally banned citizens' access to Twitter in Nigeria in a bid to control the freedom of expression of its citizenry.

We will continue to Sọ̀rọ̀ Sókè, because they cannot mute the voice of freedom.

In a world where countries are leveraging technology and social media to harness resources and create job opportunities for citizens, Nigeria has shut its own doors.

According to

Nigeria has lost at least $243 million since the Twitter shutdown.

Active citizens, we must stay demanding by asking the federal government to objectively reconsider its stance and reverse the Twitter ban.

Registered to Vote Yet?

Have you completed your physical CVR registration process? According to INEC,

only 120,600 citizens have completed their physical registration out of the 1,377,733 citizens who pre-registered online, with Anambra having the highest number of completed registrations of 8,624.

Active Citizens, remember that

it is only when you complete the physical registration that you can have a PVC and vote during elections.

This is the time you have been waiting for, don't waste it!

If you have not registered in the ongoing Continuous Voters' Registration (CVR) exercise,

Visit your state's INEC or LGA offices, if you have not completed the physical registration.

Encourage your family, friends and acquaintances to do the same!

Fixing politics in Nigeria starts from the Local Government (LG) which is the third tier of government and the closest to you.

Until we stop focusing on federal and state elections alone, nothing will change.

It's been 22 years since democracy in Nigeria, yet governance in the local government is not where it should be. It's time to get involved in your local affairs.

No Sidon Look!

Remember,

Kaduna and Nasarawa LG elections will take place on August 14, and October 6, 2021, respectively. Get ready to vote!

Have a great weekend! The EiE Nigeria Team
