Until All #ChibokGirls are Free!

Saturday, April 10, 2021

“The extremists are afraid of books and pens. The power of education frightens them. They are afraid of women. The power of the voice of women frightens them.”- Malala Yousafzai(Pakistani Activist for Female Education)

Dear Active Citizen,

Wednesday, April 14, 2021 marks 7 years since the abduction of 276 #ChibokGirls. So far, 164 girls have either escaped, were released or found. However, 112 #ChibokGirls still remain in captivity.The federal government did not learn from the abduction of the #ChibokGirls as the recent mass kidnapping of students show that students are still not safe in school!This is a painful milestone but we remain unflinching in our demand for the release of the remaining 112 #ChibokGirls, Leah Sharibu, and other kidnapped victims.Join the global action!

Another Prison Break!

Unknown gunmen in the early hours of

Monday, April 5th, attacked the Nigerian Correctional Services and the police headquarters in Owerri, Imo State, freeing 1,844 inmates;

after which the hoodlums set the facilities ablaze.

While we are still battling banditry, kidnapping and other security challenges, inmates who are considered dangerous to society and isolated are back without proper reorientation and rehabilitation. This poses a security threat to all of us.

Government should wake up to their responsibilities of protecting lives and property!

Mohammed Adamu Replaced as IGP

Mr Usman Alkali was appointed as the Acting Inspector General of Police (IGP) on Tuesday, April 6th.

Recall that President Buhari extended the tenure of the former IGP, Mohammed Adamu on

Thursday, February 4th,

which contravenes the amended Police Act 2020.

We urge the new IGP to overhaul the Nigerian police structure to end police brutality and serve Nigerians.

Have a great weekend!The EiE Nigeria Team
