From Broken Classrooms to Bold Action

“What we have done for ourselves alone dies with us; what we have done for others and the world remains and is immortal.”
Albert Pike
(American Poet, Jurist and Orator)
Dear Active Citizen,
In 2019, we shared a story from Birnin Ruwa, Zamfara State. It was the kind of story that breaks your heart—but also stirs your hope.
On one of the episodes of #OOTCRadio on Pride 103.5FM, citizens spoke out about the deplorable condition of three public schools - Jama’atul Nasir Islam Primary School, Government Day Secondary School, and Danturai Government Day Secondary School.
Students were learning under dangerously dilapidated structures. The situation was unsafe, unacceptable - and, for too long, ignored. But after that broadcast, something shifted. Community members mobilised. They demanded the Zamfara State Government take action.
Weeks later, government representatives visited the schools. A renovation contract was awarded. This is the power of the #OfficeOfTheCitizen. This is more than just “talking on radio.” It’s about everyday people using their voice - and getting results.
Our Work Has Grown - And So Has the Need
Today, our radio programmes are temporarily suspended, but our work hasn’t stopped. We are doubling down on citizen mobilization - organising townhalls and taking the message directly to the people. But we can’t do this alone.
We want to bring back our radio shows and expand our offline efforts. With your support, we can continue to amplify citizen voices and demand government accountability.
Help us keep the #OfficeOfTheCitizen alive in every state, in every community, and on every platform - online, offline, and on air.
