Another Victim of Cybercrime Act

In the past few weeks, there has been a spike in the arrest of bloggers and activists by the Nigerian Police. Another blogger and social critic, Kemi Olunloyo, was arrested and charged under Section 24 of the Cybercrime Act on an instagram post, where she accused a Port – Harcourt based pastor, David Ibiyeomie, of misconduct, including adultery. The absence of a magistrate, Alatuwo Fubara at the Port Harcourt Magistrate Court on Thursday, March 23rd stalled the hearing on her bail application and she stays back in prison until Thursday, March 30th.EiE, PIN & MRA have been in court since 2016 to repeal the Act. Our next court date is April 26th.
