On Saturday, July 14th, the people of Ekiti state elected their 4th democratic governor. Former governor and Minister of Solid Minerals Development, Dr Kayode Fayemi won with 197,459 votes while his closest opponent, Prof. Olusola Eleka had 178,121 votes.Prof. Olusola rejected the results and promised to challenge it.

EiE in partnership with TVC Nigeria, Nigeria Civil Society Situation Room, Center for Democracy and Development (CDD), Transition Monitoring Group (TMG) and SB Morgen hosted 2 live debates for Ekiti governorship candidates on Thursday, July 12th. Dr Kayode Fayemi (APC) confirmed his attendance in the afternoon but didn’t attend. Nevertheless, 7 governorship candidates participated in the 2 debates.

Security Forces in Elections

Elections allow citizens to choose who leads them and their safety during the process is sacrosanct. Elections in Nigeria usually experience heavy deployment of security forces.How 'secure' are our elections?

Voters’ Help Desk

EiE and INEC officials were answering voters registration questions at the Lagos State Polytechnic, Ikorodu Campus and Ozone Cinemas, Yaba on Wednesday, July 11th and Saturday, July 14th.

We will be live again at Filmhouse Imax, Lekki on Saturday, July 21st from 10am – 4pm.

INEC to Suspend CVR on Aug 17th

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has announced that it will suspend the ongoing CVR exercise on August 17th until after the general elections next year.
