#OpenNASS: 2017 Budget
The long awaited 2017 Appropriation Bill was passed yesterday, May 11th, by the National Assembly. The budget was increased by N143 billion to a total of N7.441 trillion from the N7.298 trillion presented by President Muhammadu Buhari.
Also, the National Assembly has FINALLY made public the details of its 2017 budget after four years of continuous advocacy with the #OpenNASS campaign and seven years of opacity.
This is a major achievement for Nigerian citizens acting in the Office of the Citizen!!
#HopeEndures: 82 Faces of Hope!
Of the 195 Chibok girls in Boko Haram captivity, 82 were released on Saturday, May 6, 2017. This was the outcome of negotiations between the Federal Government and Boko Haram. President Muhammadu Buhari hosted the girls at Aso Rock Villa, Abuja on Sunday, May 7th and he described the release of the girls as his 2nd anniversary gift to Nigerians.Lugguwa Samuel, daughter of Mrs Rebecca Samuel who is pictured above, was among the girls released. We are excited that she will no longer cry about her daughter and we look forward to the same joy for the remaining 113 parents.276 abducted.57 escaped. 3 found. 103 released. 5 infants with our girls.19 parents dead. Class Action: Unmetered Customers & Estimated Billing
Following the failure of the Eko and Ikeja Electricity Distribution Companies to meter their customers and halt estimated billing, a Lagos-based consumer rights lawyer, Olumide Babalola, has filed a class action suit at the Lagos State High Court on behalf of unmetered customers.
The suit comes up for hearing on Friday, July 14, 2017.
