After 53 days in office for his second term, President Buhari sent his ministerial list of 43 nominees to the Nigerian Senate for screening on Monday, July 22nd. The Senate began screening of the nominees on Wednesday, July 24th. The earlier scheduled recess of the National Assembly has been postponed till August 2nd.

Of the 43 names, only 7 are women (16%) and President Buhari had promised 35% in female appointments in the Next Level document presented while campaigning. Youths are also excluded from the ministerial list.

Shi'ites Muslims vs Nigeria Police

The Nigeria Police and Shi'ite Muslims had a violent clash on Monday, July 22nd. The Shi’ite Muslims were demanding for the release of their leader, Sheikh Ibrahim El-Zakzaky, who has been in detention since December 2015 despite a court order granting him bail in December 2016. This led to the avoidable deaths of Nigerians including a NYSC member serving with Channels TV and a senior police officer.

It is high time President Buhari changed his approach of managing this crisis and prevent further loss of lives.

Victory for #OfficeOfTheCitizen in Puerto Rico
