This week, EiE, Amnesty International, SERAP and others gave Major General Buhari a 14-day ultimatum to respond to 5 demands or face mass action.Speaking on behalf of the coalition, the Executive Director of Enough is Enough (EIE), 'Yemi Adamolekun, said the shrinking of the media and civic space calls for concern, adding that there is a need to resist any government action that will stifle free speech. Senate & House of Reps to Probe DSS Invasion of Court
The Senate has mandated its committee on Judiciary, Human Rights and Legal Matters to investigate Friday’s invasion of a federal high court and rearrest of the publisher of Sahara Reporters, Omoyele Sowore, by operatives of the State Security Service (SSS). The House of Representatives has also mandated its relevant committees to investigate the actions of the SSS.
Justice Simon Amobeda has withdrawn from Agba Jalingo's case.He granted the request of the defence counsel after a secret recording where he allegedly said the journalist would be treated like Ken Saro-Wiwa, the environmental activist and Ogoni leader, who was executed by the Sani Abacha-led military administration on November 10, 1995, was leaked to the press.
