Strange Times: Police vs Soldiers??

Attack on Freedom of Assembly & Association
Over 56 active citizens were indiscriminately arrested and detained on Monday, August 5th by the police for participating in the #RevolutionNow peaceful protest and demanding for the release of the Convener of the protest, Omoyele Sowore, who was arrested by the DSS on Saturday, August 3rd.
It is NOT a crime to protest peacefully!
DSS Detains Sowore for 45 days
On Thursday, August 8th, the Federal High court in Abuja granted the Department of State Service (DSS) permission to detain the convener of the #RevolutionNow protests, Omoyele Sowore, for 45 days.The security agency had applied to detain Sowore for 90 days in order to investigate him for treason-related allegations. The sitting judge, Justice Taiwo Taiwo granted the agency permission to hold the activist for only 45 days which elapses on Saturday, September 21.

Military Frees Kidnap Kingpin
The Nigeria Police Force spokesman, DCP Frank Mba, in a statement released on Wednesday, August 7th said that 1 Inspector, 2 Sergeants and 1 civilian died as a result of gunshot injuries sustained in a shoot-out by unidentified soldiers along Ibi-Jalingo Road, Taraba State.The police force operatives, led by ASP Felix Adolije of the Intelligence Response Team, reportedly came under attack while conveying a kidnap kingpin, Alhaji Hamisu, to the command headquarters in Jalingo.It was reported that the policemen were shot by the soldiers despite providing enough proof that they were police personnel on legitimate duty. The soldiers thereafter released the handcuffed suspect, who is now on the run.
Maurice Iwu in EFCC Custody
Prof Maurice Iwu, former Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), is being held in custody by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) for an alleged N1.23bn fraud concealed between December 2014 and March 27, 2015 in the account of Bio-resources Institute of Nigeria Limited domiciled in UBA.
Iwu was arraigned on a four-count charge at the Federal High Court in Ikoyi, Lagos on Thursday, August 8th.
