Sunday, April 14th marks 5 years since the 276 Chibok School girls were kidnapped. This is commemorated by a global week of action.In Lagos, citizens and civil society organisations (CSOs) including EiE came out today, April 12th to join the 'Bring Back Our Girls Peaceful Walk' to the United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF) Lagos office. They were received by  UNICEF representative, Mohammed Okorie who promised that UNICEF will intensify effort to ensure the release of Alice Ngaddah and other kidnapped victims. This is a painful milestone but we shall continue to demand for the release of the remaining #ChibokGirls, Leah Sharibu, Alice Ngaddah and other kidnapped victims.

Governorship elections held in 29 states during the 2019 general elections. Anambra, Bayelsa, Edo, Ekiti, Kogi, Ondo & Osun States did not have elections as they are off-cycle.The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has scheduled Saturday, November 2nd, for elections in Bayelsa and Kogi States.

Indians have begun voting in the first phase of general elections today, April 11th with Prime Minister Narendra Modi seeking a second term. The election is in seven-phases and it will be concluded on May 19th. Results will be announced on May 23rd.There are 900 million eligible voters.

 Strong Men of Algeria & Sudan Finally Bow Out!   

After clinging to power for 30 years, Omar al-Bashir finally bowed to pressure instigated by active citizens and stepped down as the President of Sudan on Thursday, April 10th. Abdelaziz Bouteflika also bowed to pressure from active citizens through mass protest and resigned as the President of Algeria on Tuesday, April 2nd. He was reportedly ailing, paralyzed and has not spoken to his citizens in 7 years.
