INEC Begins Continuous Voters Registration (CVR)

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) began a nationwide continuous voters’ registration exercise on Thursday, April 27, 2017. The targeted population are those that are attained 18 years old and above since the last CVR was conducted and those that have not registered. The registration exercise takes place on weekdays (Monday – Friday) excluding public holidays.Are you 18 years and above and have not registered? Click to know where you can register.

Nigerians Await the Fulfilment of #OpenNASS Promises

Senate Majority Leader, Ahmed Lawan has promised that the 2017 National Budget will be assented by the President next week. Senate President, Bukola Saraki had earlier promised that the details of the 2016 and 2017 budgets of the National Assembly will be released with the 2017 national budget. Hopefully, the National Assembly will meet one of the demands of #OpenNASS by making public their 2016 and 2017 budget details as they approve 2017 national budget.Lend your voice to the call for an #OpenNASS. Otodo Gbame: Court Adjourns for Judgement

Justice Adeniyi Onigbanjo of the Lagos State High Court, Igbosere on Tuesday, April 25th adjourned the judgement in a suit between several waterfront settlements including Otodo Gbame and the Lagos State Government over the court’s jurisdiction to hear the case. The suit was adjourned to May 25, 2017. Justice Onigbanjo gave the applicant and the respondents seven days to file their relevant court processes in response to the issue of jurisdiction raised.

EiE and other civil society organisations (CSOs) had earlier issued a press release condemning the forceful eviction and the disregard of law by the Lagos State Government.

Class Action: Unmetered Customers & Estimated Billing

Following the failure of the Eko and Ikeja Electricity Distribution Companies to meter their customers and halt estimated billing, a Lagos-based consumer rights lawyer, Olumide Babalola, has filed a class action suit at the Lagos State High Court on behalf of unmetered customers.

The suit comes up for mention on Thursday, May 4, 2017.
