After clinging to power for 37 years, Robert Mugabe finally bowed to pressure instigated by the military and resigned as the president of Zimbabwe just as impeachment proceedings started on Tuesday, November 21st. Read more
Kenya’s Supreme Court Upholds Uhuru Kenyatta’s Victory
Kenya’s Supreme Court on Monday, November 20th upheld the victory of President Uhuru Kenyatta in the controversial re-run presidential election held on October 26th. The election was boycotted by his main opposition, Ralia Odinga.Mr Kenyatta had earlier won the first election conducted on Tuesday, August 8th but Mr Odinga challenged the results and it was nullified by the Supreme Court. EiE observed the cancelled presidential election with Kenya’s inter-faith coalition.

On Saturday, November 18th, the people of Anambra State elected their 7th democratic governor. The incumbent governor, Willie Obiano of APGA emerged as the winner with 234,072 votes. There was low voter’s turnout as only 22% of the registered voters voted in the election.EiE joined the Nigeria Civil Society Situation Room to observe the process.

The All Progressive Congress (APC) won all 16 chairmanships and 181 councillorship positions in the local government elections conducted by Kwara State Independent Electoral Commission (KWASIEC) on Saturday, November 18th.

The election petition tribunal in Katsina has nullified the election of Member representing Dutsi/Mashi Federal Constituency, Mansur Ali Mashi and ordered for a fresh election in 90 days.
INEC Fixed Date For Anambra Central Senatorial Rerun
The Court of Appeal, Abuja on Monday, November 20th, ordered INEC to conduct Anambra Central senatorial district rerun election within 90 days of judgement. INEC has fixed Saturday, January 18, 2017 for the conduct of the rerun election.
