NGO Bill Suffers a Major Setback

A public hearing on the  Non-Governmental Organizations Regulatory Commission Bill was held by the House of Representatives on Wednesday, 13th December at the National Assembly Complex Abuja.

Non-Governmental Organizations and Civil Society Organizations made it clear on the streets and during the hearing that they were displeased with the bill. The #NoNGOBill hashtag trended on Twitter for several hours and  none of the persons who appeared at the hearing supported the bill.

At the end of the hearing, it was clear that the 8 existing regulatory frameworks are sufficient to regulate the sector.

Not Yet Uhuru for Saraki

In an appeal filed by the Federal Government, the three-man panel of the Court of Appeal, on Tuesday, December 12th, unanimously dismissed 15 out of 18 counts filed before the Code of Conduct Tribunal (CCT) against Bukola Saraki, the Senate President on false declaration of assets. He was ordered to defend the other three.
