“You’ve got to vote, vote, vote. That’s it: That’s the way we move forward.”
Michelle Obama
(Former First Lady of the United States of America)
Dear {{First name|Active Citizen}},
This Saturday, August 16, some Nigerians will finally get their voices back in the rooms where decisions are made. That’s because the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) will conduct 16 constituency by-elections across 12 states.
A by-election happens when a seat in the Senate, House of Representatives, or State Assembly becomes vacant before the end of the term – maybe because the former occupant resigned, passed away, or their election was nullified. For months, people in these constituencies have had no one to speak for them, no one pushing for their community needs, and no one holding the government to account on their behalf.
This weekend’s elections will fill:
2 Senatorial Districts – Anambra South, Edo Central
5 Federal Constituencies – Ovia South West/Ovia South East (Edo), Babura/Garki (Jigawa), Chikun/Kajuru (Kaduna), Ikenne/Shagamu/Remo North (Ogun), Ibadan North (Oyo)
9 State Constituencies – Ganye (Adamawa), Onitsha North I (Anambra), Dekina/Okura (Kogi), Zaria Kewaye & Basawa (Kaduna), Bagwai/Shanono (Kano), Mariga (Niger), Karim Lamido I (Taraba), Kauran Namoda South (Zamfara).
INEC says it will deploy over 30,000 officials to ensure the process runs smoothly. If you’re registered in any of these constituencies, please show up and vote. Your voice, your representation, and your community’s future depend on it.

New Date for EiE @ 15 - Mark Your Calendar!
On March 16, 2025, EiE Nigeria quietly marked 15 years of impact. 15 years since young Nigerians raised one united voice saying: “Enough is Enough!”
Fifteen years of protests, petitions, campaigns, debates, civic education & engagement, radio programmes, and policy shifts. Fifteen years of showing up online, offline, and everywhere change called.
This December, we will celebrate that journey with our “Footprints & Frontlines” anniversary gala, where we'll tell the EiE story and honour everyone who has been part of this milestone!
December 10 is significant because it's Human Rights Day, commemorating the adoption of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights by the United Nations in 1948.
Save the date and join us in honouring 15 years of citizen engagement and shared progress.
Have a great weekend!
The EiE Nigeria Team.
